Summer is just around the corner and after a long, dark winter of eating stodgy foods, many of us are already fretting about our bodies.
You may be tempted to jump on the latest fad diet, but this is the WORST thing you can do! Yes, you will probably lose weight quickly, but you risk being heavier and with more weight to lose by next summer.
We have to get out of the habit of crash dieting for holidays and other special occasions and instead aim to achieve a fit, healthy body that we can maintain for the rest of our lives.
At The Big Diet Project, we believe a fit, sexy body is possible by eating healthily, regularly and getting the correct forms of exercise.
When it comes to eating, we recommend at least 3 meals per day with 2-3 snacks. Avoid processed foods wherever possible and instead choose fresh fish, meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sugar-free dairy products. Aim to drink at least 2-3 litres of water per day for hydration and to maintain a healthy glow.
When it comes to exercise, we recommend that you combine cardio and weight training exercise: cardio will burn the excess winter body fat, while weight training will help to shape and tone your body. Aim for around 4 exercise sessions per week that are split into 20-30 minutes of cardio (e.g. running, cross training, cycling, etc.) and 20-30 minutes of weight lifting or weight bearing exercise. Don’t forget to stretch to maintain flexibility and prevent injury.
